England vs Australia First Test Day 1 Brisbane Match Report 2021

Pat Cummins claimed 5/38 as Australia bundled out England for 147 at the end of Day 1 of the opening test at the Gabba on Wednesday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, England started disastrously by losing Rory Burns bowled by Cummins off the very first delivery of the match for a golden duck.

Josh Hazlewood then got into the act by dismissing Dawid Malan (6) and skipper Joe Root (0) in quick succession.

All rounder Ben Stokes edged a Cummins delivery to Marnus Labuschagne at third slip for 5 leaving England in a spot of bother at 29/4.

The pair of Haseeb Hameed and Ollie Pope stitched together a solid 31 run stand for the fifth wicket before the former edged one to second slip for 25.

Jos Buttler and Pope featured in a 52 run stand for the fifth wicket before the former edged a Mitchell Starc delivery to Alex Carey behind the stumps for 39.

Pope perished soon after, becoming Cameron Green’s first Test victim. The well-set England batsman top-edged a hook to Hazlewood at fine leg to complete a brilliant catch .

Cummins wrapped up the tail by dismissing Ollie Robinson, Mark Wood and Chris Woakes, as the visitors were bowled out for 147 in 50.1 overs.

Australian skipper Pat Cummins was the pick of the bowlers for Australia with figures of 5/8, while Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood claimed 2 wickets each.
