Chennai Super Kings continued their impressive run by defeating the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 wickets in Match 35 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday.
After being asked to bat first by Chennai skipper MS Dhoni, Royal Challengers openers Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal got their team off to a blistering start.
The duo added 111 runs for the opening stand before Dwayne Bravo broke the partnership by dismissing Kohli caught at deep midwicket by Ravindra Jadeja for 53.
AB de Villiers who was promoted up the order perished as he sliced a Shardul Thakur delivery to Suresh Raina for 12.
Padikkal fell off the next ball, spooning an upper cut to short third man for 70. His knock came in just 50 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes.
Bravo claimed wickets of Glenn Maxwell (11) and Harshal Patel (3) in the final over as RCB managed just 156/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
The veteran West Indies all rounder finished with figures of 3 for 24, while Shardul Thakur claimed 2 wickets.
Chasing 157, Chennai openers Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad got their side of to a solid start. The pair added 71 runs for the opening stand before the latter fell to brilliant diving catch by skipper Kohli off Yuzvendra Chahal for 38.
Glenn Maxwell then got into the act by dismissing Du Plessis (31) caught at short fine by Navdeep Saini.
Moeen Ali and Ambati Rayudu put on 47 runs for the third wicket before the former flicked a Harshal Patel’s slower delivery to Kohli at midwicket.
Skipper Dhoni along with Suresh Raina remained unbeaten on 11 & 17 respectively as Super Kings overhauled the target of 157, with 11 balls to spare.
Dwayne Bravo was declared the Man of the Match.
The next match of the Indian Premier League will be a double header, with Delhi Capitals squaring off against Rajasthan Royals in Abu Dhabi and Sunrisers Hyderabad taking on Punjab Kings at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
