Beth Mooney scored a brilliant unbeaten 125 as Australia Women defeated India Women in the second ODI at Mackay to take an unassailable 2-0 lead on Friday.
After being asked to bat first by the hosts, the visitors opening pair of Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana got their team off to a fantastic start.
The duo added 74 runs for the first wicket before Shafali dragged a Sophie Molineux delivery onto her stumps for 22.
Yastika Bhatia fell cheaply to Darcie Brown caught at midwicket by Ashleigh Gardner.
Mandhana along with Richa Gosh stitched together a solid 76 run stand for the fourth wicket before the former sliced a Tahlia McGrath delivery to Mooney at point for a fine 86.
Wicketkeeper Gosh after scoring a valuable 44 was bowled by McGrath, leaving their side in a spot of bother at 199/5.
The likes of Pooja Vastrakar and Jhulan Goswami provided some impetus to the innings by putting on 53 runs for the seventh wicket, as India Women ended up with 274/7 at the end of their allotted 50 overs.
Tahlia McGrath was Australia Women’s best bowler with figures of 3/45, while Sophie Molineux claimed 2 wickets.
Chasing 275, Australia lost Alyssa Healy in the very first over to Jhulan Goswami. Skipper Meg Lanning and Ellyse Perry too departed cheaply leaving the hosts in trouble at 34/3.
Ashleigh Garden edged a Pooja Vastrakar delivery to Bhatia at first slip for 12.
Mooney along with all rounder McGrath brought the innings back on track with a 126 run stand for the fifth wicket before the latter fell to Deepti Sharma for a fine 74.
Nicola Carey was dismissed off the final delivery by Jhulan Goswami. The dismissal though was reversed after it was adjudged that Goswami had bowled a waist-high no-ball, leaving Australia to get 2 off the final ball which they ultimately managed.
Beth Mooney was declared the Man of the Match for a brilliant century.
