India vs England Second Test Day 4 Chennai Match Report 2021

Left-arm spinner Axar Patel claimed his maiden five-wicket haul, as India thumped England by 317 runs at the M.A.Chidambaram Stadium to level the series 1-1 on Tuesday.

Resuming at overnight score of 53/3, Daw Lawrence was stumped brilliantly by wicket keeper Rishabh Pant off Ravi Ashwin for 26.

Ben Stokes along with captain Joe Root added 24 runs for the fifth wicket, before the former was caught at slip by Virat Kohli off Ashwin.

Ollie Pope while trying to attack miscued a sweep off Axar Patel to Ishant Sharma at deep mid-wicket.

Kuldeep Yadav was denied his maiden wicket when Mohammed Siraj dropped a relatively simple catch at backward point.

The left arm spinner however got on the board when he had keeper Ben Foakes caught at midwicket by Axar Patel.

Root was out immediately after the lunch as he edged an Axar delivery to Ajinkya Rahane at slip for 33.

The 27 year old left-arm orthodox spinner claimed his first five wicket haul by trapping Olly Stone leg before wicket.

Moeen Ali delayed the inevitable by smashing a breezy 43 off 18 deliveries, before being stumped superbly by Pant off Kuldeep. England were bowled out for 164 runs in 54.2 overs, giving India a whopping 317 run win.

Axar Patel ended up with figures of 5/60, while local boy Ravi Ashwin claimed 3 wickets.

The series now moves to Ahmedabad where the third day-night Test will be played at the Sardar Patel stadium in Motera on February 24, Wednesday.
