Kolkata Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad 18 October Match Report 2020

Lockie Ferguson impressed on his first IPL outing by snaring two wickets in the Super Over, as Kolkata Knight Riders defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Sheikh Zyed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

After being sent in by Hyderabad skipper, openers Shubman Gill and Rahul Tripathi made a solid beginning start with a 48 run stand for the opening wicket, before T Natrajan dismissed the latter for 23.

Gill along with Nitish Rana added 39 runs for the second wicket, before the former was caught by Priyam Garg off Rashid Khan.

Vijay Shankar and Natrajan brought Sunrisers into the contest by claiming the wickets of Rana and the dangerous Andre Russell to reduce KKR to 105 for 4.

However a late flourish from skipper Eion Morgan and Dinesh Karthik propelled Kolkata to a competitive score of 163/5 at the end of 20 overs.

Chasing 164, Sunrisers sprung in a surprise, as Kane Williamson opened the batting alongside Jonny Bairstow. The duo got their team off to a fantastic start by adding 57 runs, before Ferguson sent back the former for 29.

Young Priyam Garg who was promoted to No. 3, was dismissed cheaply in the 9th over.

Varun Chakravarthy provided the vital breakthrough by dismissing the well set Bairstow for 36, and in the 12th over Manish Pandey was bowled by a superb yorker from New Zealand’s Ferguson to bring the Knight Riders back into the contest.

Skipper Warner got support from and Abdul Samad and took the game into the final two overs.

However Samad fell to Shivam Mavi at the end of the 19th over, but the Australian left hander led from the front by scoring an unbeaten 47 to help Sunrisers tie the game.

In the Super over, the 29 year old Lockie Ferguson bowled SRH skipper David Warner for a duck and Abdul Samad for two, and skipper Eoin Morgan along with Dinesh Karthik reached the target of three runs with three balls to spare.
