Delhi Capitals vs Kings XI Punjab 20 September Match Report 2020

Marcus Stoinis brilliant all round performance helped Delhi Capitals beat Kings XI Punjab in a Super Over thriller at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

After being put into bat by Kings XI Punjab skipper KL Rahul, Delhi capitals were rocked early, as Mohammad Shami accounted wickets of opener Prithvi Shaw and Shimron Hetmyer for 5 & 7 respectively.

Shikhar Dhawan couldn’t trouble the scorers as he was run out while going for a non existing run, as Delhi were reduced to 13/3.

Rishabh Pant along with skipper Shreyas Iyer stitched together a 73-run partnership for the fourth wicket, before Ravi Bishnoi claimed his maiden wicket by claiming the dangerous looking Pant for 31.

Iyer who looked set in his innings of 39 was caught by Chris Jordan off Shami.

Australian all rounder Stoinis took on Punjab bowlers by smashing them all round the park. The 31 year old was particularly severe on Chris Jordan where he took 24 runs in the final over before being run out for a scintillating 53. His knock propelled Delhi to a fighting total of 157/8 at the end of 20 overs.

Chasing 158, Punjab made a solid beginning as the opening pair added 30 runs for the first wicket, before KL Rahul was bowled by Mohit Sharma for 21.

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin then joined the party by claiming wickets of Karun Nair and Nicholos Pooran in succession, before Glenn Maxwell became the victim of Kagiso Rabada in the very next over.

Ashwin, who suffered a shoulder injury while fielding had to leave the field after his first over.

Mayank Agarwal kept the scorecard ticking and with some useful support from Sarfaraz Khan and Krishnappa Gowtham took his side past the 100 run mark.

After Gowtham’s departure in the 16th over, Mayank fought a lone battle and almost pulled an emphatic win for his side before Marcus Stoinis claimed the well set KXIP opener off the penultimate ball of the 20th over.

With just one run needed off the final delivery, Stoinis claimed the wicket of Chris Jordan (5) to take the match into the Super Over.
