Kolkata Knight Riders vs Delhi Capitals 12 April Match Report-2019

Shikhar Dhawan came back to form by scoring an unbeaten 97, as Delhi Capitals defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 7 wickets at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Friday.

Kolkata included Lockie Ferguson,Joe Denly and Carlos Brathwaite in place of Sunil Narine, Chris Lynn and Harry Gurney, while Delhi brought in Keemo Paul for Sandeep Lamichhane.

After being sent into bat by Delhi Capitals, Kolkata started on a poor note by losing debutant Denly in the very first ball of the match to Ishant Sharma.

Shubman Gill who was promoted to open the innings looked in fantastic touch, as he along with Robin Uthappa added 63 runs for the second wicket, before the latter fell to a brilliant catch by Rishabh Pant off Kagiso Rabada for 28.

Nitish Rana was dismissed cheaply by a superb yorker from Chris Morris. The 19 year old Gill reached his second IPL fifty in just 34 deliveries, before being dismissed for a quickfire 65. His knock comprised off seven fours and two sixes.

Andre Russell continued his prolific run with the bat, as he added 39 runs for the sixth wicket with Brathwaite before the former was dismissed for a breezy 45.

Piyush Chawla provided some lusty hits at the end, as the home side reached 178/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

Morris, Rabada and Keemo Paul bagged 2 wickets each.

Chasing a target of 179, the opening duo of Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan got the team off to a brisk start, by putting on 32 runs in 18 balls, before Shaw fell to a superb catch by Dinesh Karthik off Prasidh Krishna for 14.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer fell cheaply as he was caught down the leg side to Russell for 6.

Dhawan and Pant were involved in a superb partnership of 105 runs for the third wicket, before the latter was caught at long on by Kuldeep Yadav off Rana for 46.

Colin Ingram finished the game in style by scoring the winning runs, as the former was left stranded on 97. The home side reached the target of 179 with 7 balls to spare.

The 33 year old left handed batsman was declared the Man of the Match.

The 27th Match of the Indian Premier League will be a double header with Mumbai Indians taking on Rajasthan Royals at Mumbai, and Kings XI Punjab squaring off against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at Chandigarh on April 13.
