Kolkata Knight Riders vs Mumbai Indians May 9 DY Patil Stadium Match Report 2022

Ishan Kishan’s fifty and Jasprit Bumrah’s maiden fifer went in vain as Mumbai Indians succumbed to their ninth loss by losing to Kolkata Knight Riders by 52 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Monday.

After being asked to bat first by MI skipper, openers Venkatesh Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane got Kolkata off to a solid start. The pair added 60 runs for the opening stand before the former top edged a Kumar Kartikeya delivery to Daniel Sams at cover for 43.

Rahane (25) was bowled by the left-arm spinner Kartikeya while attempting a reverse sweep. Skipper Shreyas Iyer (6) edged one behind the stumps to a peach of a delivery from Murugan Ashwin.

Bumrah then wrecked the Knight Riders middle and lower order by claiming wickets of Andre Russell (9) Nitish Rana (43), Sheldon Jackson (5), Pat Cummins (0) and Sunil Narine (0) to restrict KKR to 165/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

For MI, star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 5/10, while Kumar Kartikeya bagged 2 wickets.

Chasing 166, Mumbai suffered an early jolt as they lost skipper Rohit Sharma in the very first over to Tim Southee for 2.

Tilak Varma fell cheaply for 6, edging a back of length delivery from Andre Russell to Nitish Rana at slip.

Ishan Kishan and Ramandeep Singh added 37 runs for the third wicket before the latter fell, while trying to take on Russell.

The in-form Tim David joined in and smashed three consecutive boundaries before being caught in the deep by Rahane off Varun Chakravarthy for 12.

Kishan reached his half-century off 41 balls. However while trying to up the ante he top-edged a bouncer from
Pat Cummins to Rinku Singh at deep square leg.

Cummins dented Mumbai’s hopes by claiming 3 wickets in one over, as they were routed for 113 in 17.3 overs.
