Quinton de Kock scored a blazing unbeaten 140 as Lucknow Super Giants defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders by 2 runs at the DY Patil Stadium on Wednesday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, De Kock (140)* and skipper KL Rahul (68)* smashed the KKR bowling attack and recorded the highest partnership for the opening stand to help Lucknow reach a formidable score of 210/0 in their allotted 20 overs.
The record was previously held by Jonny Bairstow and David Warner, who had stitched 185 runs against RCB in the year 2019.
Chasing 211, Mohsin Khan got LSG off to a dream start by dismissing Venkatesh Iyer and debutant Abhijeet Tomar, reducing KKR to 9/2.
The pair of Nitish Rana along with skipper Shreyas Iyer put on 56 runs for the third wicket before the former perished to Krishnappa Gowtham, caught at long off by Marcus Stoinis for a fine 42.
Skipper Iyer and Sam Billings featured in yet another valuable stand of 66 runs for the fourth wicket before Stoinis provided the breakthrough by dismissing the former for a quickfire 29 ball- 50.
Ravi Bishnoi then dismissed the well set Sam Billings (36) stumped by De Kock.
Left arm pace bowler Mohsin dashed Kolkata’s hopes by dismissing the dangerous Andre Russell, caught in the deep by Deepak Hooda, leaving them in trouble at 150/6.
However Rinku Singh and Sunil Narine turned the tide in the Knight Riders favour by putting on 58 runs for the seventh wicket before the former fell to a stunning one handed catch by Evin Lewis for a breezy 40.
Umesh Yadav was then cleaned up by a superb yorker from Stoinis, as LSG pulled off a stunning two run win and eliminated KKR from the playoffs.
