Rohit Sharma’s classy knock of 133 runs went in vain as Australia drew first blood in the ODI series by defeating India by 34 runs at Sydney on Saturday. The visitors had won only two of their previous 16 ODI’s at this venue against Australia and their poor record continued as Jhye Richardson inspired the hosts to victory in front of 38,000 odd fans at the SCG. After a fine test series win, India will turn their attention to the 50 over format when they lock horns with Australia in the first one day international at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday.

The two teams have played in 16 ODIs at the SCG, with Australia winning 13 of them and India two. Despite the visitors’ inferior record at the venue, it’s them, and not the hosts who will start favourites. India won the most recent ODI (in 2016) where they chased down a target of 331 runs with 2 balls to spare. Here is Team India’s one day record against Australia at Sydney, where the two sides will square off against each other in the first of the three one day international to be played on 12 January.

India registered their first ever test series win over Australia earlier this week and will be looking to replicate their performance in the shorter format of the game. India have never won a bilateral ODI series in Australia (not counting a Tri Series win) in their history, and will certainly fancy their chances. Given the ODI form of both teams since the last World Cup, the visitors have a great chance at making another piece of history.
