South Africa vs Netherlands Dharamshala 2023 Attendance 11,224 Cricket World Cup 17 October

A very decent crowd of 11,224 was in attendance at the HPCA Stadium in picturesque Dharamshala as the Netherlands pulled off one of the greatest upsets in their cricket history by beating South Africa by 38 runs.

Holland were put in by SA skipper Temba Bavuma- not surprising given the overcast conditions in Dharamshala that had delayed the start of play by two hours, and were 140/7 at one stage before skipper Scott Edwards’ sparkling half century, aided by timely cameos from former Protea Roelof van der Merwe and tailender Aryan Dutt, saw them pick up a staggering 104 runs off the last 9 overs.

SA v NED

The Dutch used spin in the powerplay and South Africa started cautiously in their powerplay. The loss of double WC centurion Quinton de Kock to Colin Ackermann saw a mini collapse as the Proteas went from 36/0 to 44/4. Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller steadied things before Klaasen pulled a wide delivery from Logan van Beek straight down the throat of Vikram Singh at third man. Van Beek also accounted for Miller and despite the best efforts of Keshav Maharaj at the end, South Africa simply had too much to do, and fell short by 38 runs. England vs Afghanistan Attendance 26,440 World Cup 2023 Kotla Delhi Arun Jaitley Stadium

A very good crowd of 26,440 was in attendance at the Kotla (Arun Jaitley Stadium) in Delhi as Afghanistan produced a massive upset by beating defending champions England.

Afghanistan were put in by England skipper Jos Buttler and got off to a fine start courtesy Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s 57-ball-80. Gurbaz was however run out in a mix-up with captain Hashmatullah Shahidi, and Afghanistan eventually managed 284, far lesser than the 300-350 they were threatening to get when Gurbaz was at the crease.

Eng vs Afghanistan Delhi 2023 CWC

India had chased down a similar score at the same venue against Afghanistan with plenty to spare a few days ago, but England, Harry Brook aside, struggled to cope with Afghanistan’s spinners and lost wickets at regular intervals.

They eventually fell 69 short with Nabi, Mujeeb and Rashid taking 8 wickets between them.

New Zealand vs Bangladesh Attendance 14,369 2023 World Cup Chennai MA Chidambaram Chepauk

A very decent crowd of 14,369 was in attendance in Chennai as New Zealand made it three wins in as many games with a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

The attendance was less than half the number that had turned up in Chepauk for India against Australia last weekend, but understandable given this was a weekday game between two non-local sides.

Daryl Mitchell was the star of the show for the Black Caps- his unbeaten 67-ball-89 saw them ace the target comfortably after a slow start at the beginning. New Zealand would also have been happy to see skipper Kane Williamson among the runs- he made 78 before retiring hurt.
