Indian skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front by scoring a fantastic 86 as India moved up to the top of the table with an emphatic seven-wicket win over Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
After being asked to bat first, Pakistan openers Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq got their side off to a solid start. The duo added 41 runs for the opening stand before the former was trapped leg before wicket by Mohammed Siraj for 20.
Hardik Pandya then got into the act by claiming Imam caught behind the stumps for 36. Babar Azam along with Mohammad Rizwan anchored the innings with a third wicket stand of 82 runs before Siraj cleaned up Babar for 50.
Kuldeep Yadav struck twice- first by trapping Saud Shakeel (6) and then dismissing Iftikhar Ahmed bowled around his legs for 4. Jasprit Bumrah then struck a vital blow by dismissing the in form Rizwan bowled by an off cutter for 49.
The Pakistan lower order crumbled under pressure as they were bowled out for 191 in 42.5 overs.
In response, Shubman Gill made a quick start hitting four boundaries before being caught at point by Shadab Khan off Shaheen Shah Afridi for 16.
Rohit along with Virat Kohli added 56 runs for the second wicket stand before the latter (16) miscued one to mid-on off Hasan Ali.
The Mumbai Indians skipper missed out on a well deserved hundred as he miscued one to Iftikhar Ahmed at short mid-wicket off Shaheen for 86. His knock came off 63 balls with 6 fours and 6 sixes.
Shreyas Iyer (53)* alongside KL Rahul (19)* remained unbeaten as The Men in Blue overhauled the target in 30.3 overs.
