Bengaluru skipper Faf du Plessis led from the front by scoring a fine 54 in front of 29,680 crowd as RCB clinched the final spot in the playoffs in the IPL 2024 by defeating Chennai Super Kings by 27 runs on Saturday.


After being asked to bat first openers Du Plesssis along with Virat Kohli got RCB off to a solid start. The pair added 78 runs for the opening stand before the latter perished to Mitchell Santner for 47.

Former South Africa skipper Du Plessis (54), Rajat Patidar (41) and Cameron Green (38) made useful contributions to power RCB to 218/5 in their 20 overs.

In response, CSK were rocked early as Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed for a golden duck by Maxwell in the very first over.

Daryl Mitchell (4) fell to Yash Dayal in the third over. Rachin Ravindra along with Ajinkya Rahane anchored the innings by adding 66 runs for the third wicket stand before the latter was dismissed by Lockie Ferguson for a 22 ball-33.

Despite the early loss, Ajinkya Rahane played a steady knock, scoring 33 runs off 22 balls with 3 fours and 1 six. The likes of Ravindra Jadeja (42) and MS Dhoni (25) tried to revive the innings but it wasn’t enough as CSK posted 191/7, thereby falling 27 run short of the target.
