Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scored fine half centuries as India beat England by 5 wickets on Day 4 of the fourth Test at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Monday.
Resuming at 40/0, the overnight pair of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal added 44 more runs before the latter fell to a brilliant diving catch by James Anderson at short third man off Joe Root for 37.
Rohit reached his half century, but was beaten in flight and was stumped by wicket keeper Foakes off Hartley for 55. Rajat Patidar’s (0) poor run with the bat continued as he was caught at short leg by Pope off Shoaib Bashir.
In the second session, the hosts lost wickets of Ravi Jadeja and Sarfaraz Khan off Bashir in quick succession leaving them in spot of bother at 120/5.
However the pair of Gill along with Dhruv Jorel stitched together an unbroken 72 run stand for the sixth wicket stand to take India to a comfortable 5 wicket win.
With this win, the hosts lead the 5 match series 3-1. The fifth and the final test will be played in Dharamsala on March 7.
