Ravindra Jadeja scored a magnificent unbeaten 81 in front of 30,700 crowd as India took firm grip by scoring 421/7 , with an overall lead of 175 at the end of Day 2 of the first test against England at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday.

Resuming at 119/1, Yashasvi Jaiswal (80) chipped a return catch to Joe Root while attempting another big hit. Tom Hartley claimed his maiden test wicket by dismissing Shubman Gill caught at mid wicket by Duckett for 23.

The pair of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer added 64 runs for the fourth wicket stand before the latter perished to Rehan Ahmed for 35. Rahul featured in yet another crucial 65 run stand for the fifth wicket alongside Jadeja.

The well-set Rahul looked good for his ton, but fell 14 short of it as he became Hartley’s second Test victim. Srikar Bharat scored a well made 41, before being trapped leg before wicket by Root while attempting a sweep.

Ravichandran Ashwin (1) was run out following a horrible mix-up with Jadeja. The latter along with Axar Patel (35*) featured in an unbeaten 63 run stand for the eight wicket as the hosts ended Day 2 at 421/7, with an overall lead of 175.
