Yashasvi Jaiswal and all rounder Shivam Dube scored quickfire half centuries as India took an unassailable 2-0 lead by beating Afghanistan by 6 wickets in the second T20 international at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Sunday.
After being asked to bat first by Indian skipper, Ravi Bishnoi drew first blood by snaring Rahmanullah Gurbaz (14) caught at mid-on by Dube.
The pair of Ibrahim Zadran and Gulbadin Naib added 33 runs for the second wicket stand before the former was knocked over by Axar Patel for 8.
Azmatullah Omarzai (2) was dismissed by a slower delivery from Shivam, as the visitors were reduced to 60/3. Gulbadin Naib scored a fighting 35 ball-57 before perishing to Axar.
However some useful contributions from Najibullah Zadran (23), Karim Janat (20 ) and Mujeeb Ur Rahman (21), took Afghanistan to a competitive 172 in their 20 overs.
Chasing 173, the Men in Blue were rocked early as Indian skipper Rohit Sharma while attempting a premeditated slog off Fazalhaq Farooqi was bowled for a second consecutive duck. The pair of Jaiswal and Virat Kohli added 57 runs for the second wicket before the latter miscued an attempted hit off Naveen-ul-Haq to Ibrahim Zadran at mid off for 29.
The left hander Jaiswal featured in yet another crucial third wicket stand off 92 runs alongside Shivam Dube before the former was caught behind the stumps by Rahmanullah Gurbaz off Karim Janat. In the very same over, Jitesh Sharma (0) perished while trying to take on Janat.
All rounder Dube scored a fighting unbeaten 63, to take India to a comprehensive six wicket win.
