Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer scored fantastic tons as India beat Australia by 99 runs in DLS method in the second one day international at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Sunday.
After being put into bat, Josh Hazlewood drew first blood by dismissing Ruturaj Gaikwad (8) caught behind the stumps. The pair of Shubman Gill along with Iyer added 200 runs for the second wicket stand before the latter perished to Sean Abbott while attempting a big hit for a magnificent 105.
Gill after reaching his three figure mark miscued a length delivery from Cameron Green to wicket keeper Alex Carey who took a fine catch for a 97 ball-104.
Skipper KL Rahul along with Ishan Kishan put on 59 runs for the fourth wicket stand before the latter was dismissed by Adam Zampa for a quickfire 18 ball-31.
Rahul was involved in yet another 53 run stand for the fifth wicket alongside Suryakumar Yadav before the former was cleaned by Green for 52.
Suryakumar then provided a late blitz by smashing Mumbai Indians team mate Green for four successive sixes in the 44th over. His brilliant unbeaten 37 ball-72 took the Men in Blue to a mammoth score of 399/5 in their 50 overs.
In response, Australia got off to a worst start as Prasidh Krishna dismissed Matthew Short (9) and Steven Smith (0) off consecutive deliveries. The pair of David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne rebuild the innings and took the visitors to 56/2 after 9 overs, before rain halted play.
Once play resumed, the visitors were given a revised target of 317 in 33 overs. Ravi Ashwin then got into the act by knocking over Labuschagne for 27.
The star off spinner also dismissed the dangerous Warner (53) leg before wicket while attempting a reverse sweep. The left hander did not opt for the review, with the replay suggesting that there was an clear inside edge.
Josh Inglis was trapped right in front of the stumps in the same over for 6 as the visitors lost half their side for 101.
Ravindra Jadeja then claimed wickets of Alex Carey (14) and Adam Zampa (5) as Australia slumped to 140/8. However Sean Abbott and Josh Hazlewood kept the hosts at bay with a 77 run stand for the ninth wicket before the latter was dismissed by a slower delivery from Mohammed Shami for 23.
Jadeja then wrapped up the innings by rattling Abbott’s stumps as the Aussies were bowled out for 217 in 28.2 overs. With this win, the hosts clinched the three match series 2-0.
