Jsson Holder claimed figures of 2/18 as West Indies stunned India by 4 runs in the first T20 international at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad on Thursday.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, openers Brandon King and Kyle Mayers got West Indies off to a steady start. The pair added 29 runs for the opening wicket before the latter was trapped leg before wicket by Yuzvendra Chahal while attempting a sweep for 1. The replay however suggested that the ball might have missed the stumps.

In the same Chahal dismissed the dangerous King right in front of the stumps for a 19 ball-28.

Johnson Charles then fell to a brilliant running catch to his left by debutant Tilak Varma off Kuldeep Yadav for 3.

The pair of Nicholas Pooran along with skipper Rovman Powell resurrected the innings with a 38 run stand for the fourth wicket before the latter miscued a short ball from Hardik Pandya to Varma at deep square leg for a 34 ball-41.

Rovman Powell struck some lusty hits towards the end, before Arshdeep Singh struck twice in the penultimate over by dismissing both Shimron Hetmyer and Powell for 10 & 48 respectively.

Mukesh Kumar bowled a superb last over by conceding just 9 runs in the final to keep West Indies to 149/6 in their 20 overs.

Chasing 150, Akeal Hosein got the hosts off to a dream start by dismissing Shubman Gill stumped for 3. Ishan Kishan along with Suryakumar Yadav put on 23 runs for the second wicket before the former (6) miscued a lofted hit off McCoy to Powell at mid on.

Yadav and Tilak Varma put on 39 runs for the third wicket before the former fell to a magnificent diving catch by Shimron Hetmyer at short extra cover off Jason Holder for a run a ball 21.

Varma’s fine debut innings ended on 39 as he mistimed a short delivery from Shepherd to Hetmyer at fine leg.

The visitors slipped even further as Hardik Pandya (19) was bowled by a slower one from Holder, and Sanju Samson (12) was run out by a brilliant direct from Kyle Mayers.

Left arm pacer Arshdeep Singh (12) provided a glimmer off hope for the Men in Blue by slamming two consecutive boundaries, but they fell short by 4 runs in the end.

West Indies all rounder Jason Holder was adjudged the Player of the Match for his brilliant performance with the ball.

West Indies 149 for 6 (Powell 48, Pooran 41, Chahal 2-24, Arshdeep 2-31) beat India 145 for 9 (Tilak 39, Holder 2-19, McCoy 2-28) by four runs
