Skipper Kraigg Brathwaite scored a hard fought 75 as West Indies ended the day at at 229/5 against India at Port of Spain in Trinidad on Saturday.
Resuming at 86/1, skipper Brathwaite along with Kirk McKenzie added 31 more runs before debutant Mukesh Kumar claimed his maiden wicket by dismissing McKenzie caught behind while attempting a cut for 32 before rains forced an early lunch.
Brathwaite along with Jermaine Blackwood added 40 runs for the third wicket before the former perished to Ravi Ashwin for 75. Blackwood then fell to a magnificent one handed catch by Ajinkya Rahane at slips off Ravi Jadeja for 20.
Alick Athanaze featured in a 30 run stand for the fifth wicket alongside Joshua Da Silva before Mohammed Siraj broke the partnership by cleaning up Da Silva for 10.
At the end of Day 3, West Indies finished at 229/5 with Athanaze and Jason Holder unbeaten on 37 & 11 respectively.
