Teja Nidamanuru scored a fantastic hundred as Netherlands stunned the West Indies in a dramatic super over in their group-stage World Cup Qualifier at Takashinga Sports Club, Harare on Monday.
After being asked to bat first, openers Brandon King and Johnson Charles got West Indies off to a fantastic start. The duo put on 101 runs for the opening wicket before the latter was trapped leg before wicket by Vivian Kingma for 54.
King featured in yet another 59 run stand for the second wicket alongside Shamarh Brooks before the latter perished to Saqib Zulfiqar for 25.
Zaulfiqar claimed his second wicket by claiming King for 76. Left hander Nicholas Pooran scored a magnificent unbeaten 65 ball-104 with 9 fours and 6 sixes to take Windies to a gigantic score of 374/6 in their 50 overs.
In response, Vikramjit Singh and Max O’Dowd got Netherlands off to a solid start. The pair put on 76 runs for the opening wicket before Roston Chase broke the partnership by dismissing O’Dowd for 36.
Teja Nidamanuru scored a swashbuckling 111 off just 76 deliveries, which included eleven fours and three sixes. Scott Edwards provided valuable support to Nidamanuru by scoring a quickfire 67 off 47 balls. However his efforts were not good enough as the Dutch fell one run short of the target, and the match ended in a tie.
Logan van Beek produced an all-round performance for the Dutch by scoring 30 runs off Jason Holder, which included 3 sixes and three fours in the Super Over.
The 32-year-old also claimed 2 wickets as West Indies ended up with 8, thereby giving Netherlands a 22 run win in the Super Over.
Netherlands 374 for 9 (Nidamanuru 111, Edwards 67, Chase 3-77) tied with West Indies 374 for 6 (Pooran 104*, King 76, Zulfiqar 2-43). Netherlands won the Super Over.
