England lost 2 quick wickets in the final session before rain interrupted play at the end of Day 3 of the of the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Sunday June 18.
Resuming at an overnight score of 311/5, Alex Carey got a reprieve as Jonny Bairstow dropped a catch off James Anderson in the very first over of the day.
However veteran James Anderson broke the stand by cleaning up Carey with a brilliant delivery for a well made 66. Usman Khawaja along with skipper Pat Cummins added 34 runs for the seventh wicket stand before the former perished to Ollie Robinson for a fantastic 141.
Nathan Lyon (1) also perished to Robinson, pulling a short ball to Ben Duckett at deep square leg. In the very next over Scott Boland (0) fended a well-directed bouncer from Stuart Broad straight to Ollie Pope at silly point.
Cummins (38) then miscued a hook off Robinson to Ben Stokes as Australia were bowled out for 386, giving the hosts a lead of 7.
In response, England openers added 26 runs for the opening stand when rain stopped play. After play resumed the Aussies dismissed both Ben Duckett (19) and Zak Crawley (7) as England slumped to 28/2, as rain forced play to be called off after 10.3 overs.
