England vs Australia First Ashes Test Day 2 Edgbaston Match Report 2023

Usman Khawaja scored a fantastic unbeaten 126 as Australia ended Day 2 at 311/5 against England at the end of Day 2 at Edgbaston on Saturday.

Resuming at 14/0, Australia lost wickets of David Warner (9) and Marnus Labuschagne (0) to Stuart Broad off consecutive deliveries.

Khawaja along with Steven Smith added 38 runs for third wicket before the latter was trapped leg before wicket by Ben Stokes for 16.

Travis Head joined in and smashed eight fours and a six. However he fell immediately after reaching his half-century, chipping a catch to Zak Crawley at mid wicket off Moeen Ali for a 63 ball-50.

The left hander Khawaja featured in yet another crucial 72 run stand for the fifth wicket along side Cameron Green. The latter got a reprieve when Bairstow missed a stumping off Moeen. The stand ended when Ali produced a peach off a delivery to dismiss Green through the gate for 38.

Khawaja reached his well deserved hundred brought with a late cut-off Ben Stokes for four. Alex Carey along with 36 year old Khawaja kept England bowlers at bay with an unbroken 91 run stand for the fifth wicket as Australia ended the day at 311/5, trailing England by 82 runs.
