Manish Pandey’s valiant half century went in vain as Delhi Capitals suffered their fifth consecutive loss by losing to to Royal Challengers Bangalore by 23 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
After being put into bat, Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis got RCB off to a good start. The duo put on 42 runs for the opening stand before the latter perished to Mitchell Marsh for 22.
Kohli featured in yet another steady stand of 47 runs for the second wicket alongside Mahipal Lomror before the former miscued a high full toss off Lalit Yadav for a 34 ball-50.
Kuldeep Yadav then brought Delhi back into the contest with wickets of Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik in succession as they collapsed from 117/2 to 132/6.
Shahbaz Ahmed struck some lusty blows towards the end to take Royal Challengers to a competitive score of 174/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
Chasing 175, Delhi Capitals started poorly, by losing wickets of Prithvi Shaw (0), Mitchell Marsh (0) and Yash Dhull (1) with the score on 2.
Debutant Vijaykumar Vyshak then pegged DC back by sending the in form David Warner for 19.
Abishek Porel (5) then miscued a high full-toss off Harshal Patel to mid-on. Left hander Axar Patel again looked good before falling to Vyshak for a 14 ball-21.
Manish Pandey scored a gritty fifty, but it was not enough as RCB emerged victorious by 23 runs.
Royal Challengers Bangalore 174 for 6 (Kohli 50, Marsh 2-18, Kuldeep 2-23) beat Delhi Capitals 151 for 9 (Pandey 50, Vyshak 3-20, Siraj 2-23) by 23 runs
