After being asked to bat first by KKR skipper, openers Brook and Mayank Agarwal got Sunrisers off to a solid start. The pair added 46 runs for the opening stand before Andre Russell dismissed both Mayank and Rahul Tripathi inside the powerplay.

Skipper Aiden Markram joined Brook, and the duo added 72 runs for the third wicket. Brook got a reprieve in the 10th over when Suyash Sharma failed to hold on to a return catch off his own bowling.

The terrific stand ended when Markram fell to Varun Chakravarthy for a quickfire 26 ball 50.

Abhishek Sharma also scored a fine 17-ball 32. England’s Harry Brook became the first player to score a ton in IPL 2023 as Sunrisers posted a huge score of 228/4 in their 20 overs.

Chasing 229, Kolkata got off to a poor start, as Rahmanullah Gurbaz was caught at deep third man by Umran Malik off Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the very first over.

Marco Jansen then got into the act by dismissing both Venkatesh Iyer (10) and Sunil Narine (0) off consecutive deliveries as the Knight Riders slumped to 20-3.

The pair of Narayan Jagadeesan along with Nitish Rana brought the innings back on track with a valuable 62 run stand for the fourth wicket before the former was caught at deep midwicket by substitute Phillips, while attempting a slog sweep off Mayank Markande for 36.

Andre Russell then fell to Markande for 3. The in form Rinku Singh came in as he along with skipper Rana featured in a 69 run stand for the sixth wicket before the latter was dismissed by T Natarajan for a breezy 41 ball-75.

The left hander Rinku scored a fighting unbeaten 58 as the Knight Riders ended up with 205/7, thereby falling short by 23 runs.
