Tahlia McGrath swashbuckling unbeaten 90 went in vain as UP Warriorz Women went down by 42 runs against the Delhi Capitals Women at the DY Patil Stadium on Tuesday.
After being asked to bat first by UP Warriorz skipper, openers Meg Lanning along with Shafali Verma got Delhi off to a quickfire start. The duo added 67 runs for the opening wicket before the latter (17) fell to a brilliant low catch by Kiran Navgir off Tahlia McGrath.
Sophie Ecclestone then got into the act by dismissing Marizanne Kapp for 16. Delhi Capitals skipper Meg Lanning scored a magnificent 70 off 42 balls, before falling to Rajeshwari Gayakwad. Her knock comprised off 10 fours and 3 sixes.
The pair of Jess Jonassen (42*) and Jemimah Rodrigues (34*) provided a late flourish in the end to take Delhi to a mammoth score of 211/4 in their allotted 20 overs.
Chasing 212, UP Warriorz crumbled in their chase by losing the wickets of skipper Alyssa Healy (24), Kiran Navgire (2) and Shweta Sehrawat (1) inside the powerplay.
Deepti Sharma (12) looked completely out of sorts and was caught superbly brilliantly by a diving Radha Yadav, who charged from long on off Shikha Pandey.
Tahlia McGrath kept the Warriorz hopes alive with a superb unbeaten knock of 90. His knock came off just 50 balls, with 11 fours and four sixes.
However, McGrath didn’t receive much support from the other end, as UP Warriorz finished at 169/5, thereby falling short by 42 runs.
