George Munsey’s brilliant unbeaten 66 followed by an impressive figures of 3/12 by Mark Watt, helped Scotland stun the West Indies by 42 runs in the opening Group B match in Hobart on Monday.

After being asked to bat first by Windies skipper Nicholas Pooran, openers George Munsey and Michael Jones got Scotland off to a breezy start. The duo added 55 runs for the opening stand before Jason Holder broke the stand by dismissing Jones for 20.

The all rounder then claimed his second wicket by dismissing Matthew Cross (3) cheaply. Alzarri Joseph then got into the act by claiming Riche Berrington for 16.

However some useful contributions from Calum MacLeod (23) and Chris Greaves propelled Scotland to a competitive score of 160/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

Munsey scored an unbeaten 53 ball-66 with 9 fours.

Chasing 161, openers Kyle Mayers and Evin Lewis got West Indies off to a quickfire start. The duo added 20 runs before Mayers was caught at deep midwicket boundary by Munsey off Josh Davey.

Lewis along with Brandon King featured in a 33 run stand for the second wicket before the former (14) perished to Brad Wheal.

The Men from the Caribbeans kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bundled out for 118 in 18.3 overs, thereby losing the match by 42 runs.
