Smriti Mandhana scored a fantastic unbeaten 63 as India Women thumped Pakistan Women by 8 wickets in the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham on Sunday.
The match was reduced to 18 overs because of rain. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Pakistan lost Iram Javed (0) in the second over to Meghna Singh.
The pair of Muneeba Ali and Bismah Maroof featured in a 50 run stand for the second wicket before Sneh Rana who replaced Rajeshwari Gayakwad, claimed wickets of Bismah (17) and Muneeba (32) in the same over.
Ayesh Naseem then fell to a fine running catch by Rodrigues, who ran from deep midwicket boundary off Renuka Singh for 10.
Pakistan slipped even further when both Omaima Sohail and Aliya Riaz were run out, leaving them in trouble at 96/6.
Radha Yadav then dismissed both Kainat Imtiaz and Diana Baig, as the Women in Green were bundled out for a paltry total of 99 in 18 overs.
For India, Sneh Rana and left arm spinner Radha Yadav claimed two wickets each, while Renuka Singh, Meghna Singh, and Shafali Verma bagged a wicket each.
Chasing 100, openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana got India Women off to a magnificent start. The duo added 61 runs for the opening stand before the former nicked one to wicket keeper Muneeba Ali off Tuba Hassan for 16.
Sabbhineni Meghana was bowled by a tossed up delivery by Omaima Sohail for 14.
However Mandhana stayed unbeaten on 63 off 42 balls with 8 fours and 3 sixes, as India Women reached the target in 11.4 overs.
With this victory, India Women move to the top of the table with a superior net run rate.
