Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan scored quickfire cameos as The Gujarat Titans beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday.
After being asked to bat first by Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami struck a key blow by castling SRH skipper Kane Williamson (5) with a beautiful delivery.
Rahul Tripathi who was dropped at point by Rashid Khan off Yash Dayal, was finally dismissed by Shami, leg before wicket for 16.
Abhishek Sharma along with Aiden Markram stitched together a solid 96 run stand for the third wicket before the former dragged a slower delivery from Alzarri Joseph onto the stumps for a fine 65.
Shami then sent back Nicholas Pooran caught at long on for 3. Markram brought up his half century by smashing Shami for a six at a deep midwicket boundary.
The South African star eventually miscued a slower one from Yash Dayal for a quickfire 40 ball-56.
Joseph then produced a brilliant effort of his own bowling to run out Washington Sundar for 3.
However Shashank Singh provided some impetus to the innings by smacking Ferguson for 25 in the final over to take Sunrisers to a mammoth score of 195/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers for Gujarat with figures of 3/39.
Chasing 196, openers Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill got Gujarat off to a fantastic start. The duo added 69 runs for the opening wicket before Umran Malik broke the partnership by cleaning up Gill for 22.
Hardik Pandya after being hit on the shoulder by Malik struck two boundaries, before top edging a short delivery to Marco Jansen at fine third man.
Saha reached his fifty off just 28 balls. However his excellent knock of 68 ended, when the 23 year old right arm pacer got through his defences.
David Miller and Abhinav Manohar departed cheaply to reduce the Gujarat Titans to 140/5.
Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan pulled off sensational unbeaten 56 run stand for the sixth wicket to take GT to a stupendous five wicket win.
With this victory they move to the top of the points table.
Umran Malik ended up with a magnificent spell of 5/25 for the Sunrisers.
