Punjab Kings vs Gujarat Titans April 8 Brabourne Stadium Mumbai Match Report 2022

Rahul Tewatia smashed two sixes off the final 2 deliveries as Gujarat Titans stunned Punjab Kings by 6 wickets at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Friday.

After being asked to bat first by Gujarat skipper, Punjab Kings lost Mayank Agarwal (5) early in the second over, caught at midwicket by Rashid Khan off Hardik Pandya.

Lockie Ferguson then got into the act by sending Jonny Bairstow caught at third man for 8.

The pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Liam Livingstone featured in a 52 run stand for the third wicket before the former edged a Rashid Khan delivery to Matthew Wade behind the stumps for 35.

Debutant Darshan Nalkande then pegged Punjab back with wickets of Jitesh Sharma (23) and Odean Smith in consecutive deliveries.

Livingstone along with Shahrukh Khan added 29 runs for the sixth wicket before the former was caught at deep square leg boundary by David Miller off Rashid Khan for a magnificent 64. His knock came off 27 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes.

Shahrukh was trapped leg before wicket by Rashid, while attempting a sweep for a 8 ball-15.

Rahul Chahar and Arshdeep Singh scored some valuable runs in the end to take Punjab to 189/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

For Gujarat, Rashid Khan was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/22.

Chasing 190, openers Matthew Wade and Shubman Gill got Gujarat off to a steady start. The pair added 32 runs for the first wicket before Kagiso Rabada provided the break through by dismissing Wade, caught behind for 6.

Gill along with Sai Sudharsan put on 101 runs for the second wicket before the latter skied one to Agarwal at covers off Rahul Chahar.

The 23 year old Gill fell 4 run short off a well deserved hundred, when Kagiso Rabada dismissed him in the penultimate over.

With 12 needed off the final two balls, Tewatia smashed Odean Smith for 2 sixes to give Gujarat Titans a thrilling win.
