Liam Livingstone scored a dazzling 60, as Punjab Kings defeated the Chennai Super Kings by 54 runs at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.
After being asked to bat first by CSK skipper, PBKS got off to a poor start as Mayank Agarwal (4) chipped a Mukesh Choudhary delivery to Robin Uthappa at covers.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni then pulled off a brilliant run-out to send back Bhanuka Rajapaksa for 9.
Shikhar Dhawan along with Livingstone featured in a 95 run stand for the third wicket before the former (33) mistimed a Dwayne Bravo delivery to Jadeja at extra cover.
Livingstone’s 32 ball-60 ended as he sliced one to Rayudu at short third man. Jitesh Sharma came in and scored a quickfire 26 off 17 balls, before perishing to Dwaine Pretorius.
Chennai Super Kings bowlers fought back in the end to restrict Punjab to 180/8 in 20 overs.
For Chennai, Chris Jordan and Dwaine Pretorius claimed 2 wickets each.
Chasing 181, Kagiso Rabada and Vaibhav Arora got Punjab off to a great start by dismissing Ruturaj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa cheaply.
Arora claimed his second wicket when Moeen Ali (0) chopped a length delivery onto to the stumps. Skipper Ravindra Jadeja was bowled by Arshdeep Singh to leave CSK in trouble at 23/4.
Ambati Rayudu gloved a bouncer from Odean Smith to wicket keeper Jitesh Sharma,, who took a fine catch as the Super Kings lost half their side for 36.
Shivam Dube along with MS Dhoni brought the innings back on track with a valuable 62 run stand for the sixth wicket before Livingstone struck twice- first by dismissing Dube (57) caught at short third man and then sending back Dwayne Bravo (0) to an outstanding one handed catch off his own bowling.
Rahul Chahar then wrapped up the innings by dismissing Dwaine Pretorius, Dhoni and Chris Jordan, as CSK were bundled out for 126 in 18 overs.
Livingstone was adjudged the Player of the Match for his excellent all-round performance.
