After being asked to bat first by Delhi skipper Rishabh Pant, Gujarat started badly as Matthew Wade (1) was caught behind trying to lap Mustafizur Rahman over the keeper’s head.

Gill along with Vijay Shankar added 42 runs for the second wicket before the latter inside edged a Kuldeep Yadav delivery onto the stumps for 13.

Hardik Pandya joined Gill and the pair featured in a 65 run stand for the third wicket. However Khaleel Ahmed broke the stand by dismissing the former (31) caught at long on by Rovman Powell.

The 23 year old Gill’s swashbuckling innings ended as he guided a Ahmed slower delivery to Axar Patel at deep midwicket. His knock came off just 46 balls with 6 fours and 4 sixes.

David Miller (20*) and Rahul Tewatia (14) scored some useful runs down the order to take Gujarat to 171/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

Mustafizur Rahman was the pick of the bowlers for Delhi with figures of 3/23, while Khaleel Ahmed claimed 2 wickets.

In reply, Delhi started terribly by losing Tim Seifert (3), Prithvi Shaw (10), and Mandeep Singh (18) cheaply leaving them in a spot of bother at 34/3.

Rishabh Pant and Lalit Yadav put on 61 for the fourth wicket before the latter (25) was run out following a horrible mix up with skipper.

Lockie Ferguson pegged Capitals back with wickets of Pant (43), and Axar Patel (8) quickly, reducing them to 126/6.

Rashid Khan then trapped Shardul Thakur (2) leg before wicket with a googly.

Mohammed Shami dashed Delhi’s hopes by removing Rovman Powell and Khaleel Ahmed in succession as the Capitals ended up with 157/9 in 20 overs.

Ferguson was declared the Player of the Match for his impressive figures of 4/28.
