Australian skipper Meg Lanning lead from the front by scoring a magnificent century as Australia Women continued their unbeaten run by defeating South Africa by five wickets at the Basin Reserve in Wellington on Tuesday.
After being asked to bat first, South Africa Women openers Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvaardt got their side off to a solid start. The pair added 88 runs for the opening stand before Alana King broke the partnership by dismissing Lee leg before wicket for 36.
Lara Goodall mistimed a Sutherland delivery to King for a 29 ball-15. Wolvaardt along with captain Sune Luus featured in a 91 run stand for the fourth wicket before the former fell 10 run short off a well deserved hundred.
Marizanne Kapp and Chloe Tryon scored brief cameos in the end, as South Africa posted 271/5 in their allotted 50 overs.
In response, Australia started badly by losing both Alyssa Healy and Rachel Haynes, reducing them to 45/2.
Lanning and Beth Mooney put on 60 runs for the third wicket before the latter was run out for 23.
The Aussies skipper smashed an unbeaten 135 as Australia reached the target with 28 balls to spare.
For South Africa, Shabnim Ismail and Chloe Tryon claimed 2 wickets each.
