India vs Sri Lanka First Test Day 3 Mohali Match Report 2022

Ravindra Jadeja claimed figures of 4/46 as India thumped Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the two match series at PCA Stadium in Mohali on Sunday.

Resuming at 108/4, the overnight pair of Pathum Nissanka and Charith Asalanka added 53 more runs before Jasprit Bumrah broke the partnership by dismissing the latter leg before wicket for 29.

Jadeja then claimed wickets of Dickwella (2) and Suranga Lakmal (0) in the same over as the Lankans slumped to 164/7.

Mohammed Shami then dismissed Lasith Embuldeniya with a brilliant bouncer.

All rounder Jadeja then wrapped the tail and completed his five-fer, as the visitors were skittled out for 174. Pathum Nissanka was unbeaten on 61.

After being asked to follow on, Ravi Ashwin pegged Sri Lanka back with wickets of Lahiru Thirimanne and Pathum Nissanka respectively.

Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne looked good for a brief while before edging a Mohammed Shami delivery to wicket keeper Rishabh Pant behind the stumps for 27.

Angelo Matthews along with Dhananjaya de Silva featured in a 49 run stand for the fourth wicket before the latter chipped a catch to Shreyas Iyer at extra cover.

Charith Asalanka started aggressively by smashing Jadeja for 2 sixes and 2 fours. However Asalanka (20) became Ashwin’s 435th Test scalp as he edged a flighted delivery into Rishabh Pant’s pads and deflected to Kohli at slip.

Matthews (29) and Suranga Lakmal fell in quick succession to Ravi Jadeja. Niroshan Dickwella and Lasith Embuldeniya kept the hosts at bay with a 32 run stand for the eight wicket before the latter was dismissed for 2.

Ashwin bagged the final wicket by dismissing Lahiru Kumara (4), who miscued a slog and was caught comfortably by Shami, as Sri Lanka were folded for 178 in their second innings.

For India, Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja claimed 4 wickets each, while Mohammed Shami took 2 wickets.

The second test between India and Sri Lanka will take place in Bengaluru from March 12-16.
