Australia vs England Fourth Test Sydney Day 4 Match Report 2022

Usman Khawaja notched up his second hundred as Australia took firm control at the end of Day 4 of the fourth test against England on Saturday.

Resuming at a overnight total of 258/7, England added 36 more runs and were bowled out for 294 giving the hosts an overall lead of 122. Jonny Bairstow fell for 113 while Jack Leach and Stuart Broad departed for 10 & 15 respectively.

Scott Boland was the pick of the bowlers for Australia with figures of 4/36.

Mark Wood drew first blood in the Australia’s second innings by dismissing David Warner (3) caught behind by substitute wicket keeper Ollie Pope who kept in place of the injured Jos Buttler.

Marcus Harris looked solid in his knock of 27 before nicking a Jack Leach delivery behind the stumps.

Marnus Labuschagne and Steven Smith both got starts but failed to carry on as Australia slumped to 86/4.

The pair of Khawaja and Cameron Green put on 179 runs for the fifth wicket before the latter top edged a Leach delivery to Joe Root for a fine 74.

Alex Carey fell for a first duck, as skipper Pat Cummins declared Australia’s second innings at 265/6, giving England an improbable target of 388 runs.

Jack Leach was England’s best bowler with figures of 4/84.

The tourists got to the close without losing a wicket for 30, with Zak Crawley on 22 not out and Haseeb Hameed on eight. They trail by 357.

England openers Haseeb Hameed (8*) and Zak Crawley (22*) were unbeaten at the crease, as they ended Day 4 at 30/0, still requiring a further 358 run to win.
