England vs Australia First Test Day 3 Brisbane Match Report 2021

England skipper Joe Root and Dawid Malan scored respective half centuries as the visitors clawed their way back into the contest at the end of Day 3 of the opening test in Brisbane on Friday.

Resuming at a overnight score of 343/7, Travis Head and Mitchell Starc added 48 more runs before the latter was caught at deep square leg by Rory Burns off Chris Woakes for 35.

Left hander Travis Head after scoring a brilliant 152 was the last man to be dismissed as the Aussies were bowled out for 425, with an overall lead of 278.

For England, Ollie Robinson and Mark Wood claimed 3 wickets each while Chris Woakes bagged 2 wickets.

The visitors in the second innings got their side of to a solid start. The pair of Haseeb Hameed and Rory Burns added 23 runs for the opening wicket before the latter was caught behind by Alex Carey off Pat Cummins for 13.

Mitchell Starc then got into the act by dismissing Hameed caught down the leg side, leaving England at 61/2.

Joe Root (86*) and Dawid Malan (80*) featured in an unbeaten 159 run stand for the third-wicket as the visitors ended Day 3 at 220/2, still trailing by 58 runs.
