Ishan Kishan returned to form by scoring a scintillating half century as Mumbai Indians thumped Rajasthan Royals by 8 wickets in Sharjah to keep their playoffs hopes alive on Tuesday.
After being asked to bat first by MI skipper Rohit Sharma, RR openers Evin Lewis and Yashasvi Jaiswal got their side off to a decent start. The pair added 27 runs for the opening wicket before the latter was dismissed by Nathan Coulter-Nile.
Jasprit Bumrah then got into the act by dismissing the dangerous Evin Lewis leg before wicket for 24.
The likes of Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube and Glenn Phillips departed cheaply, leaving their side reeling at 50/5.
Apart from opener Lewis, David Miller (15) and Rahul Tewatia (12) were the only two players to reach double figures as RR ended up with a paltry total of 90/9 in their allotted 20 overs.
Nathan Coulter-Nile was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/14, while debutant James Neesham claimed 3 wickets.
Chasing 91, Rohit Sharma smashed Mustafizur Rahman for 14 runs in his first over. However his innings was cut short as he chipped a Chetan Sakariya delivery to Jaiswal at covers for 22.
Suryakumar Yadav’s poor run with the bat continued as he mistimed a Mustafizur delivery to substitute MK Lomror at mid off.
The left hander Ishan scored an unbeaten 25 ball-50, to take Mumbai to a comprehensive 8 wicket win. His knock comprised off five fours and three sixes.
With this victory Mumbai climb into fifth position with 12 points.
Coulter-Nile was declared the Man of the Match for his brilliant bowling performance.
