Debutant Jason Roy and skipper Kane Williamson scored respective half centuries as Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated the Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Monday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first Rajasthan Royals lost Evin Lewis in the second over to Bhuvneshwar Kumar, caught at deep backward square leg.
Yashasvi Jaiswal along with skipper Samson added 56 runs for the second wicket before the former dragged a Sandeep Sharma delivery on to his stumps for 36.
Liam Livingstone fell cheaply as he pulled a Rashid Khan short delivery to Abdul Samad at fine leg.
Samson took on Sunrisers bowlers by smashed them to all parts of the ground. The Kerala batsman scored a blistering 82 off 57 balls with seven fours and three sixes. However Siddarth Kaul dismissed RR skipper and Riyan Parag in the final over to restricted Royals to 164/5 in their allotted 20 overs.
Mahipal Lomror remained unbeaten on 29.
Chasing 165, the opening pair of Jason Roy and Wriddhiman Saha got Sunrisers off to a fantastic start. The duo added 57 runs for the first wicket before Saha was stumped by Lomror for 18.
Roy and Williamson stitched together a solid 57 run stand for the second wicket before the former was dismissed by Chetan Sakariya for a fine 60.
Mustafizur Rahman provided a glimper of hope for RR by dismissing young Priyam Garg caught and bowled for a golden duck.
Skipper Williamson (51) along with Abhishek Sharma (21) featured in an unbeaten 48 run stand for the third wicket as SRH reached the target comfortably with nine balls to spare.
