Kieron Pollard slammed an unbeaten 35 and leg spinner Rahul Chahar claimed 3/19 as Mumbai Indians notched up a 13 run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai on Saturday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Mumbai Indians opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock got their team off to a fantastic start. The duo added 55 runs for the opening wicket before Vijay Shankar finally broke the stand by dismissing Rohit caught at mid wicket by Virat Singh for 32.
Suryakumar Yadav looked good in his short stay before being caught and bowled by Shankar. Mujeeb Ur Rahman soon dismissed Ishan Kishan with wicketkeeper Bairstow taking a fabulous catch down the leg side.
Pollard, who was dropped by Vijay in the 19th over, smashed Bhuvneshwar Kumar for two sixes to take Mumbai to 150/5 at the end of 20 overs.
For Sunrisers Shankar along with Mujeeb claimed 2 wickets each, while left arm fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed bagged a solitary wicket.
Chasing 151, Sunrisers got off to a blazing start with David Warner and Jonny Bairstow adding 67 runs for the opening wicket. The latter was dismissed hit wicket while attempting a slog sweep off Krunal Pandya for a quickfire 43 off 22 balls.
Manish Pandey lofted a Rahul Chahar ball straight to long-off for 2. Warner was run out by Hardik Pandya’s direct throw as SRH slumped to 91 for 3.
Chahar dealt SRH a twin blow by dismissing Virat Singh and Abhishek Sharma. The 30 year old Vijay Shankar slammed 2 sixes of Krunal to keep SRH in the hunt.
Abdul Samad was run by Hardik’s direct throw and Trent Boult then produced a perfect yorker to get rid off Rashid Khan for a duck.
Jasprit Bumrah then ended any small hopes Sunrisers might have had of a victory by getting Shankar caught at long-off for 28, as SRH eventually fell short by 13 runs.
Kieron Pollard was declared the Man of the Match.
