Australia vs New Zealand First T-20 Match Report 2021 9093 Attendance Hagley Oval Christchurch

Devon Conway scored a brilliant unbeaten 99, as New New Zealand defeated Australia by 53 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the 5-match series on Monday.

After being asked to bat by Australian skipper Aaron Finch, New Zealand lost openers Martin Guptill and Tim Siefert to Daniel Sams and Jhye Richardson cheaply.

In the 4th over, Sams provided another crucial breakthrough by dismissing skipper Kane Williamson for 12 to leave the hosts were reeling at 19/3.

The pair of Conway and Glenn Phillips then resurrected the innings with a valuable 74 run stand for the fourth wicket, before the latter was caught at cover by Mitchell Marsh off the bowling of Marcus Stoinis for a breezy 30.

The 29 year old left Conway then added 47 runs for the fifth wicket with James Neesham before the Wellington all-rounder, bought by Mumbai Indians in the recent IPL auction, fell to Jhye Richardson for a quickfire 15 ball 26.

Johannesburg-born Conway remained unbeaten on 99 to take New Zealand to a competitive 184/5 at the end of their allotted 20 overs.

Migael Pretorius vs Cobras in CSA Challenge 2021- 16 runs in 3 balls for VKB Knights

Migael Pretorius stole victory from the jaws of defeat for the VKB Knights as the Bloemfontein based outfit picked up their first win of the CSA T20 Challenge today (February 22, 2021)

When Grant Mokoena holded out to Tony de Zorzi off Ziyaad Abrahams in the last over, the batsmen crossed and it left Pretorius 16 to get off the final 3 balls. He hit two sixes in succession to bring the equation to 4 off 1. Abrahams then bowled a perfect yorker that Pretorius was unable to get a bat on, but unfortunately for the Cobras, it was adjudged to be a no-ball. Pretorius then hit a 4 off the final delivery despite the best efforts of a diving George Linde on the boundary to take the Knights home in stunning fashion.

Given the crazy sum Chris Morris went for (INR 16.25 crore/ ZAR 32.5m) in the IPL 2021 auction, Pretorius is another that scouts will be keeping an eye on closely. He also hit 38 off 23 in the previous game for the Knights, and a hard hitting fast bowling all-rounder is worth their gold in the T20 format.

Pretorius did have a bit of luck though- he was dropped by Imran Manack in the penultimate over bowled by Corbin Bosch. It was a tough chance, but one that effectively made the difference between defeat and victory for the Cobras.

Root Return to Form Timely Ahead of Ashes Series

England’s Test cricket captain Joe Root did not make a century in 2020, but has since returned to form with the bat in a big way during his team’s tour of the subcontinent.

He seems to love playing in Asia. Root followed-up on big knocks against Sri Lanka with a match- winning contribution in Chennai that handed India a rare home defeat in the first of four Tests. Continue reading “Root Return to Form Timely Ahead of Ashes Series”
