Chennai Super Kings vs Delhi Capitals 1 May Match Report-2019

Suresh Raina scored a brilliant half century along with MS Dhoni who provided a late flourish at the end as Chennai Super Kings thumped Delhi Capitals by 80 runs at Chennai on Wednesday.

The Super Kings had their regular skipper Dhoni, Faf Du Plessis and Ravi Jadeja in place of Mitchell Santner, Murali Vijay and Dhruv Shorey, while Delhi brought back by Chris Morris and Trent Boult in place of injured Ishant Sharma and Kagiso Rabada.

After being put into bat by Delhi capitals skipper, Chennai Super Kings suffered an early jolt as Shane Watson was caught at deep mid wicket by Axar Patel off Jagadeesha Suchith for a duck.

The pair of Du Plessis and Suresh Raina brought the innings back on track by adding 83 runs for the second wicket, before the former was dismissed by Axar Patel for a steady 39.

Raina looked really solid in his innings of 59, before falling to Suchith.

Dhoni along with Ravi Jadeja provided impetus to the innings by putting on a quickfire 43 runs for the fourth wicket stand before the latter was dismissed for a breezy 25 off 10 balls.

The former Indian skipper took on the Delhi bowlers by smashing 39 runs in the final two overs, as Chennai Super Kings posted a respectable 179/4 at the end of their allotted 20 overs.

The 37 year old Indian wicket keeper batsman remained unbeaten on 44 . His knock comprised of 4 fours and 3 sixes.

MS Dhoni

The 25 year old Suchith was Capitals best bowler as he bagged 2/28 in 4 overs.

Chasing a score of 180, Delhi lost Prithvi Shaw in the first over to Deepak Chahar.

Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer attacked the Chennai bowlers by adding 48 runs for the second wicket, before Dhawan was bowled by Harbhajan Singh.

After the powerplay the pair of Imran Tahir and Jadeja wrecked the middle and lower by sharing seven wickets between them.

Delhi skipper Iyer was the only batsman to provide some resistance by scoring 44, as the visitors were routed for 99 in 16.2 overs. With this victory Chennai now sit at the top of the table, ensuring that they get 2 chances.

Imran Tahir was Super Kings best bowler as he claimed 4/12, while Jadeja bagged 3 wickets.

The 51st match of the Indian Premier League will be played between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad at Mumbai on 2 May, Thursday.
