Ahead of the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League, the Delhi Capitals have unveiled their new jersey. The franchise have changed the name from Delhi Daredevils to Delhi Capitals, presumably from that fact that Delhi is the capital of India.
The likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant were seen unveiling the new Kit. Delhi appear to be building a base of young, strong Indian talent- the likes of Iyer, Shaw and Pant have all been touted to have big futures with the national side.
The 12th edition of IPL will be beginning from March 23, with Delhi Capitals starting their campaign against three time champions Mumbai Indians on 24 March at Wankhede Stadium. Last year, Delhi finished at the bottom of the table and their performance in recent times has been nothing to crow about. Blue is the principal colour of DC’s primary jersey (two different shades as can be seen in the pictures above), with hints of red on the collar and sleeves, and a tiger stripe design on the front.
Ahead of the 2019 auctions, Delhi released the likes of former KKR captain Gautam Gambhir, England batsman Jason Roy, pacer Liam Plunkett, hard hitting Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell and Indian speedster Mohammed Shami.
Delhi’s aim to create a new IPL identity was reflected in the hashtag used for the launch on social media- “Nayi Dilli ki Nayi Jersey” (the new jersey of New Delhi). The owners will be hoping that the rebranding results in a change in their fortunes- Delhi have never won the IPL in their history.
Veteran left hand batsman Shikhar Dhawan who represented Sunrisers Hyderabad in the previous edition, will be seen donning the colours of DC in the 2019 season. The team will be captained by Shreyas Iyer, with legendary Australian batsman Ricky Ponting serving as the head coach. Daikin are the main sponsors of this Delhi 2019 IPL shirt, with the logo of Lotus Herbals also appearing on the chest.
