Here are the list of Adelaide Strikers Women players who are going to feature in the Women’s Big Bash League beginning from December 1. The tournament, which lasts nearly two months, will conclude on January 26.
The team will be captained by New Zealand’s Suzie Bates. The 31 year-old is one of three foreign players in this squad- the others being compatriot Sophie Devine and England spinner Danielle Hazell. Devine was Adelaide’s leading run scorer last season, with 434 runs from 15 innings at an average of 31. Her performances had her in fifth on the overall runs chart, behind Ellyse Perry, Elyse Vilani, Nicole Bolton and Beth Mooney. Devine’s runs came at a fair clip as well- her eventual SR of 109.59 was higher than Perry, who finished the tournament as its leading run scorer. The Wellington born star was also worth her weight in gold with the ball- fourth on the overall list with 17 wickets at an economy rate of 6.20
The Adelaide Strikers will kick off their WBBL 2018 campaign on December 2 against Brisbane Heat Women in St.Kilda, followed by a clash six days later against the Melbourne Renegades at the very same venue. Their first away clash sees them square off against the Renegades again, but this time in Ballarat.
The Strikers had two very poor seasons at the beginning of the BBL, finishing second from bottom in the inaugural edition of the tournament back in 2015/16, and last in the 2016/17 tournament. 2017/18 was a major improvement as they finished fourth and qualified for the semifinals, only to go out the hands of eventual winners Sydney Sixers. They will be hoping for Devine to have another excellent tournament with both bat and ball to potentially reach the knockouts again.
