Chennai Super Kings’ spinners wove a web around Bangalore’s batsmen as the home side thumped the visitors by seven wickets in the opening match of the 2019 Indian Premier League at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday evening. The game was expected to be a blockbuster clash, but ended up being a one sided one as the troika of Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir and Ravindra Jadeja proved too hot to handle for the poor RCB batsmen on a tough Chennai wicket.

RCB opted for AB de Villiers, Shimron Hetmeyer, Moeen Ali and Colin de Grandhomme as their overseas options while Chennai, somewhat surprisingly, went with just three foreign players- the PSL winning Quetta duo of Shane Watson & Dwayne Bravo and South African spinner Tahir.
