Indian Women vs Pakistan Women T-20 Match Report-2018
Veteran Mithali Raj scored a quickfire 56 runs, as India comfortably defeated arch rivals Pakistan in the Group match of the ICC Women’s World Cup in Guyana on Sunday.
After winning the toss and electing to field, Indian bowlers wrecked through Pakistan’s top order to reduce them to 30/3.
Bismah Maroof and Nida Dar batted sensibly and added 93 valuable runs for the 4th wicket, before Dayalan Hemalatha dismissed both Maroof and Nidar for 53 & 52.
The remaining lower order batsman failed to make a mark, as Pakistan ended up with 133/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Dayalan Hemalatha and Poonam Yadav claimed two wickets each.
Even before the innings began, India were given 10 penalty runs, as Pakistan were docked for running on the danger zone twice.
Chasing a target of 134, India started briskly as Mithali Raj and Smriti Mandhana added 73 runs for the opening stand, before Mandhana was dismissed by Bismah Maroof for 26 runs.
The 18 year old Jemimah Rodrigues looked good in her brief stay, until she was out caught and bowled by Nida Dar for 16.
The 35 year old Mithali, while trying to finish the game fell to Diana Baig.
Harmanpreet Kaur and Veda Krishnamurthy saw the team through, as India won the match in the 19th over and with 7 wickets to spare.
Nida Dar was the most successful bowler for Pakistan with 1/17 in 4 overs.
Mithali Raj was declared the Man of the match for her brilliant batting.
India now have two wins from as many games in the group stage of the ICC Women’s World T20.
Their next match will be against Ireland on 15th November.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s First T20 International Hundred- India Women vs New Zealand Women T-20 Match Report 2018
India women’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur notched up her maiden T-20 hundred, as India comfortably beat New Zealand by 34 runs in the first match of the World T20 World Cup on Friday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, India were rocked early, as they lost both Taniya Bhatia and star batsman Smriti Mandhana to Lea Tahuhu.
Debutant Dayalan Hemalatha too fell cheaply, leaving India in a spot of bother 40/3 at one stage.
However, Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues then steadied the ship by adding 134 runs for the fourth wicket before the 18 year old Rodrigues was dismissed stumped by Katey Martin off Jess Watkin for a quickfire 59.
The 29 year old Kaur brought up her first T-20 hundred by smashing 103 runs off 51 balls with seven fours and 8 sixes. In the process she also became the first Indian to score a T-20 century in Women’s cricket. Her powerful hitting saw eight balls cross the fence- New Zealand by comparison could only manage one. No team in the previous T20 World Cup had managed to hit eight or more sixes either- another indicator of Kaur’s destructive capabilities. Indian Women vs Sri Lanka Women Second T-20 Match Report-2018
After being sent into bat by the Indian skipper, Sri Lankan women started their innings badly in the second T-20 at Colombo as they lost the wickets of BYA Mendis, AC Jayangani and WK Dilhari, before rain delayed the start of play by half and hour.
The Lankans were reeling at 49/3 with the opposition skipper Chamari Atapattu back in the pavilion.
Atapattu looked set for a big score before she was bowled by Deepti Sharma for 21 runs. Her innings consisted of 2 fours and 1 six.
Her opening partner Mendis fell cheaply for 1 run off the bowling of Arundhati Reddy.
Kavisha Dilhari who was promoted up the order after her magnificent performances in the previous games failed to get going as she fell to Poonam Yadav caught by Reddy.
Play was eventually called off with only 7.5 overs being bowled.
Indian Women vs Sri Lanka Women First T-20 Match Report-2018
Leg-spinner Poonam Yadav bagged 4 wickets for 26 runs as India Women defeated Sri Lanka women by 13 runs in the first T20I at Katunayake.
After being sent into bat by the Sri Lanka skipper, India got off to a terrible start as their inform Smriti Mandhana for a duck in the very first over.
The 18 year old Rodrigues played some magnificent strokes and was severe on all Sri Lankan bowlers. Her innings of 36 runs came in just 15 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes before falling to Chamari Athapaththu.
Mithali Raj and captain Harmanpreet Kaur fell cheaply inside the first six overs, as they scored 75 runs in the powerplay.
India lost their way in the middle stages, but cameos from Jemimah Rodrigues Taniya Bhatia and Veda Krishnamurthy propelled them to 168/8 in 20 overs. Prabodhani and Jayangani claimed 2 wickets each.
Chasing a target of 169 runs, Yasoda Mendis and skipper Athapaththu gave Sri Lanka a flying start by adding 39 runs in the first 3 overs, before the debutant Arundhati Reddy dismissed Mendis for a quickfire 32 runs.
The 27 year old Poonam Yadav wrecked their middle order by claiming 4 wickets to reduce Sri Lanka to 117/7.
Eshani Lokusuriyage 45 (31) couldn’t help Sri Lanka get across the line as they were bowled out for 155 runs in 19.3 overs.
Left arm bowler Radha Yadav along with Kaur bagged 2 wickets each. India take 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
The second T20 international will be played in Colombo on Friday.
