West Indies vs New Zealand Group C Tarouba June 13 Match Report 2024

Sherfane Rutherford scored a magnificent unbeaten 68 as West Indies qualified for the Super 8 stage by beating New Zealand by 13 runs at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba.

After being asked to bat first, West Indies got off to a terrible start as they lost half their side with score on 30. However Rutherford’s (68*), followed up with contributions from lower order batsman helped their side reach 149/9 in their 20 overs.

Trent Boult was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/16, while Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson claimed 2 wickets each.

Chasing 150, openers Devon Conway and Finn Allen got New Zealand off to a solid start. The pair added 20 runs for the opening wicket before the former perished to Akeal Hosein for 5.

Black Caps middle and lower order crumbled as they stumbled to 63/5. However Glenn Phillips (40) and Mitchell Santner (21) were the only two batters to make significant contributions, as the Kiwis finished at 136/9 in their 20 overs thereby falling 13 run short of the target.
