Riyan Parag’s magnificent knock of 76 went in vain as Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals in a thriller by 3 wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Wednesday.
After being asked to bat first by GT skipper, openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler got Rajasthan off to a steady start. The pair added 32 runs for the first wicket before the former (24) was caught behind off Umesh Yadav while attempting a scoop.
Buttler then edged one to Rahul Tewatia at slips off Rashid Khan for 8. The pair of Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag added 130 runs for the third wicket stand. The latter who was dropped twice by wicket keeper Matthew Wade made Gujarat pay by scoring a masterful 76 before perishing to a fine juggling catch by Vijay Shankar to Mohit Sharma at long on.
Shimron Hetmyer scored a quickfire 5 ball-13 to take Rajasthan Royals to 196/3 in their 20 overs. Samson remained unbeaten on 68.
Chasing 197, Sai Sudharsan and skipper Shubman Gill got Gujarat off to a brilliant start. The pair added 64 runs for the opening stand before the former was trapped leg before wicket by Kuldeep Sen for 35.
Matthew Wade (4) and Abhinav Manohar (1) fell to a brilliant deliveries from Sen in the very same over. Yuzvendra Chahal then got into the act by dismissing Shankar for 16.
Skipper Shubman Gill scored with a well-made 72 runs, before being stumped smartly by Samson off Chahal. Gujarat lost wickets in the middle but Titans reached home with the final delivery, courtesy a fine 38 run stand for the seventh wicket between Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan.. With 11 needed off the final over, Rashid smashed a boundary off the final delivery to seal a dramatic victory for the Titans by 3 wickets.
