Mukesh Kumar claimed figures of 3/32 as India beat Australia by six runs in the fifth and the final T20I at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday.
After being asked to bat first, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad got India off to a brisk start. The pair added 33 runs before the former perished to Jason Behrendorff for 21.
Ruturaj Gaikwad (10) miscued a catch to mid-off, while trying to take on Ben Dwarshuis. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav (5) fell to a brilliant catch at backward point by Ben McDermott off Dwarshuis.
The hosts slipped even further as the in form Rinku Singh (6) perished while trying to take on Tanveer Sangha. The pair of Shreyas Iyer and Jitesh Sharma added 42 runs for the fifth wicket before the latter (24) was dismissed by Aaron Hardie.
Iyer featured in yet another crucial 46 run stand for the sixth wicket alongside Axar Patel before the latter was dismissed for a quickfire 21 ball-31.
Iyer scored a valuable 53 to take The Men in Blue to a competitive score of 160/8 in their 20 overs.
Chasing 161, Travis Head got Australia off to a fine start by slamming three consecutive fours off Arshdeep Singh.
However Mukesh Kumar provided the breakthrough by dismissing Josh Philippe bowled for 4. Ravi Bishnoi struck twice- first by castling Travis Head (28) with a quick delivery and then dismissing Aaaron Hardie (6) caught in the deep.
Ben McDermott and Tim David added 47 runs for the fourth wicket before the latter top edged a half-hearted pull.
Matthew Short (16 and Aussie captain Matthew Wade played handy cameos to take the visitors close to the target. With 10 needed off the final over Arshdeep held his nerve by adding just 3 runs to take the hosts to a 6 run win.
