India vs Australia Fourth T20I Raipur 1 December Match Report 2023

Left arm spinner Axar Patel claimed figures of 3/16 as India beat Australia by 20 runs in the fourth T20I at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur on Friday.

After being sent into bat, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad got India off to a brisk start. The pair added 50 runs for the opening stand before the former miscued a pull off Aaron Hardie for 37.

Shreyas Iyer (8) playing his first game of the series did not last long, as he holed out to long-on off Tanveer Sangha. Ben Dwarshuis then pegged the hosts back by claiming the prize scalp of skipper Suryakumar Yadav (1) caught behind the stumps.

The pair of Ruturaj Gaikwad along with Rinku Singh added 48 runs for the fourth wicket stand before the former chipping a simple catch off Sangha for 32.

Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma brought the innings back on track with a 56 run stand for the fifth wicket before the latter was dismissed by Ben Dwarshuis for a breezy 35.

Wickets continued to fall in the end, but Rinku continued his good form with the bat by scoring a quickfire 29 ball-46 to take Men in Blue to 174/9.

Chasing 175, Australia got off to a fantastic start. Travis Head took on Deepak Chahar by taking him for 22 runs in the third over as Aussies raced to 40/0.

The partnership was broken when Ravi Bishnoi cleaned up Josh Philippe (8) while attempting a premeditated sweep. Travis Head (31) then mistimed a slog sweep off Axar Patel to Mukesh Kumar.

The left arm spinner then knocked over Aaron Hardie for 8. The pair of Ben McDermott and Tim David added 35 runs for the fourth wicket before the former was dismissed by Axar for 19.

Chahar came back well in the end by claiming the wickets of Tim David (19) and Matthew Short (22). Australian captain Matthew Wade remained unbeaten on 36 off 23, but the visitors eventually fell well short by 20 runs.

With the win, India took a 3-1 lead in the five match series. The fifth and the final game will take place in Bangalore on December 3.

India 174 for 9 (Rinku 46, Jitesh 35, Dwarshuis 3-40) beat Australia 154 for 7 (Wade 36*, Head 31, Axar 3-16, Chahar 2-44) by 20 runs
