Rassie van der Dussen scored a fine unbeaten 76 in front of 10,927 crowd as South Africa beat Afghanistan by 5 wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Friday.
Afghanistan went in with Same XI, while South Africa made two changes, with Phehlukwayo and Coetzee coming in for Jansen and Tabraiz Shamsi.
After being asked to bat first, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran got Afghanistan off to a steady start. The pair added 41 runs for the opening stand before the former was dismissed by Keshav Maharaj for 25.
Ibrahim Zadran fell soon after for 15. Maharaj claimed his second wicket of the innings by dismissing skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (2) leaving their side in a spot of bother at 45/3.
Rahmat Shah along with Azmatullah Omarzai put on 49 runs for the fourth wicket stand before Lungi Ngidi broke the stand by claiming Rahmat for 26.
Afghanistan lost a bit of momentum in the middle stages, but a superb unbeaten 97 by Azmatullah Omarzai helped them reach 244 in their allotted 50 overs.
In response, Quinton de Kock and skipper Temba Bavuma got South Africa off to a solid start. The duo added 64 runs for the opening stand before Mujeeb Ur Rahman broke the stand by dismissing Bavuma for 23.
Rassie van der Dussen along with Aiden Markram put on 50 runs for the third wicket stand before the latter fell to Rashid Khan for 25.
Andile Phehlukwayo playing his first game of the tournament, put on an unbeaten 65 run stand for the sixth wicket to take Proteas to a comfortable fifth wicket win. Van der Dussen remained unbeaten on 76.
With the loss, Afghanistan are officially eliminated from the tournament.
