India vs Bangladesh Super 4 Match 12 Colombo Match Report 2023

Shubman Gill’s fantastic knock of 121 went in vain as India went down to Bangladesh by 6 runs at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday.

Having already made it to the final, The Men in Blue made five changes to their playing XI with Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kuldeep Yadav making way for Mohammed Shami, Prasidh Krishna, Suryakumar Yadav, Shardul Thakur and debutant Tilak Varma respectively.

After being asked to bat first, Mohammed Shami struck early by knocking over Litton Das (0) with a peach off a delivery. Tanzid Hasan (13) then bottom edged a short ball off Shardul Thakur on to his stumps.

The all rounder struck again when Anamul Haque (4) top-edged a short ball to wicket keeper KL Rahul. Mehidy Hasan Miraz got a reprieve twice in the 10th over- first when Tilak Varma failed to holed on to a flick at the square mid wicket and then Suryakumar Kumar who put down at second slip.

However Mehidy failed to capitalize on his opportunity and perished to Axar Patel for 13.

Skipper Shakib Al Hasan along with Towhid Hridoy stitched together a valuable 101 run stand for the fifth wicket. Tilak could have claimed his maiden wicket off Shakib, but Rahul failed to hold on.

However the excellent partnership ended as Shakib (80) dragged at a short of length delivery from Thakur on to his stumps.

Ravindra Jadeja claimed his 200th ODI wicket by claiming Shamim Hossain leg before wicket for 1. Towhid Hridoy’s (54) solid innings ended when he pulled a delivery from Shami to Varma at deep square leg, leaving their side in trouble at 193/7.

However Nasum Ahmed and Mahedi Hasan added a crucial 45 runs for the eighth wicket stand before the former was cleaned up by Prasidh Krishna for 44.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib scored a quickfire 8 ball-14 to lift Bangladesh to a competitive score of 265/8 in their 50 overs.

Chasing 266, India were rocked early as skipper Rohit Sharma chipped a catch to Anamul Haque at cover-point off Tanzim Hasan Sakib for a duck.

Tilak Varma then offered no shot and was bowled by Tanzim for 5. The pair of Gill and KL Rahul added 57 runs for the third wicket stand before the later fell to Mahedi Hasan for 19.

Ishan Kishan was dismissed leg before wicket while attempting a reverse sweep off Mehidy Hasan Miraz for 5. Gill added 45 runs for the fifth wicket alongside Suryakumar Yadav before the latter was bowled by Shakib Al Hasan while attempting a sweep for 26.

Ravindra Jadeja (7) was then knocked over by Mustafizur Rahman while attempting a heave. India suffered a huge blow when Gill (121) was caught in the deep, miscuing a big hit off a tossed-up delivery from Mahedi Hasan.

Axar Patel provided a glimmer of hope by scoring a valiant 42. He however could not finish the end and was caught at long off while trying to taking on Mustafizur as The Men in Blue were eventually bowled out for 259, giving Bangladesh a six run win.
